Nu credeam ca Yahoo! sa asculte sfatul lui Tim O'Reilly atit de curind, dar se pare ca decizia a fost luata si va fi anuntata in curind.
Google si Yahoo au testat anul acesta o colaborare in domeniul cautarii, colaborare a carei rezultate au fost benifice pentru ambele companii. Astfel, acest parteneriat nu ar fi neaparat o supriza.
Conform statisticilor, in luna aprilie Google a operat aproape doua treimi din cautarile din SUA. Totusi, Eric Schmidt a declarat zilele trecute ca Google este a parte "relativ mica" a publicitatii online si ca Yahoo domina piata afisarilor si vinzarilor de reclama. Acesta poate fi un alt motiv ca parteneriatul sa aiba loc, conducind la beneficii majore pentru ambele companii.
Asa cum Tim O'Reilly (web 2.0) spunea, decit sa concureze pe o piata in care Google domina autoritar, Yahoo si Microsoft are putea incerca noi abordari in domenii in care cautarea nu este atit de avansata (gen video, foto, retelele sociale, etc.)
Update 1: Un alt argument (speculativ inca) ar fi faptul ca tot astazi Yahoo si Microsoft au anuntat, dupa o poveste cu iz puternic de telenovela, incetarea oricaror discutii.
Update 2: Desi programat la ora 1:30PM (SUA), anuntul se lasa inca asteptat.
Update 3: Yahoo a anuntat un parteneriat ne-exclusiv cu Google in domeniul cautarii si publicitatii. Conform anuntului de presa:
Intreg anuntul de presa a fost publicat sub titlul 'Yahoo! to Strengthen Competitive Position in Online Advertising Through Non-Exclusive Agreement With Google'.The agreement enables Yahoo! to run ads supplied by Google alongside Yahoo!’s search results and on some of its web properties in the United States and Canada. The agreement is non-exclusive, giving Yahoo! the ability to display paid search results from Google, other third parties, and Yahoo!’s own Panama marketplace.
Under the terms of the agreement, Yahoo! will select the search term queries for which – and the pages on which – Yahoo! may offer Google paid search results. Yahoo! will define its users’ experience and will determine the number and placement of the results provided by Google and the mix of paid results provided by Panama, Google or other providers. The agreement applies to paid search and content match and does not apply to algorithmic search. The agreement also applies to current partners in Yahoo’s publisher network.

The agreement will enable Yahoo! to run ads supplied by Google’s AdSense™ for Search and AdSense™ for Content services next to Yahoo!’s internally generated paid search and algorithmic search results.
